Discussion: Why does the body produce cholesterol and what happens to it in the body? The body produces cholesterol for a number of reasons; to produce sex hormones, nerve function, and to keep the blood platelets from clumping and sticking together. The last use of cholesterol mentioned is of supreme importance. Let’s discuss a couple of things about cholesterol. 80% of the body’s cholesterol is produced by the liver, which leaves only 20% to be obtained from the diet. Cholesterol is not bad unless it oxidizes. So why would we want to take a pharmaceutical drug that forces the liver to halt or highly reduce our production of cholesterol. To reduce the consumption of foods high in cholesterol is not even close the solution to reducing the blood cholesterol levels. The highly processed, chemical laden, hydrogenated, and toxin filled foods are a large part the problem. Consuming these foods causes the cholesterol in your body to oxidize, because you are not ingesting enough antioxidants such as vitamin A-C-E etc… to keep the free radicals neutralized. When the body gets congested with toxins nothing is going to work as it should. The first step in cholesterol reduction is to clean up the diet. If you can’t grow it or kill it then don’t eat it. Apples grow on trees; not apple pies. Honey comes directly from bees; sugar is a highly refined by product of corn. We have removed ourselves so far from the earth that we don’t know what is healthy eating. One reason the liver produces cholesterol is to thin the blood when the brain tells it that the blood is too sticky and thick. If you take a cholesterol lowering drug you usually you have to have your liver enzymes monitored while you are on the drug. Why would we want to put unnecessary strain on a vital organ that we cannot live with out. The first step to cholesterol reduction is to clean up the diet, no processed foods, no hydrogenated oils, no sugar and nothing white (white rice, white flour, white potatoes (unless raw). Don’t get sucked into the idea that because your bread says whole wheat that it is good for you. Look at the ingredients, if you don’t know what it is then don’t eat it. Go to you local health food store and try a flourless sprouted grain bread called Ezekiel 4:9 or other whole grain bread. Then cleanse your blood with a detox product, there are many herbal blends on the market that help to detox the body. I am not talking about the laxatives products. Use these products only if you are not having a bowel movement a couple times a day. If the bowels are moving good then you can take a detox product with ingredients like milk thistle, dandelion, burdock, red clover, sarsaparilla, etc… if your bowels aren’t moving good then you may need to increase your fiber, water and or probiotic intake. Taking a detox product while your bowels are not moving well is not a good idea because all you are doing is reabsorbing the toxins, if they are not excreted in the stool. See a colon therapist if the problem is chronic. Usually most people can get the bowels moving by increasing there consumption of raw foods. Stay away from the harsh laxatives, the can leave you more bound up than you were to start with. Below is a list of natural products that help with cholesterol reduction, but these are to be used in conjunction with good dietary principles mentioned above.* |

Artichoke Extract: Artichoke extract safely stimulates the liver’s bile flow. Bile aides in the digestion and absorption of fats. Bile acids are natural detergents that liquefy fats. Bile also helps to soften the stool and helps to keep the small intestine free of parasites and other unhealthy microorganisms.* Artichoke extract works in two ways when it comes to lowering cholesterol and triglycerides, first by increasing the bile flow from the liver, which helps in the elimination of excess cholesterol and then by inactivating or inhibiting the enzyme responsible for cholesterol production.* |

Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne like garlic has been used for many years to enhance human health. They have been used to treat infection, particularly respiratory and sinus infections, reduce chance of stroke, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and enhance circulation. They aide in cholesterol and blood pressure reduction by inhibiting platelet aggregation. * |

Guggul: Guggul resin is a substance that comes from the Mukul Myrrh shrub found in India and Pakistan. It reduces cholesterol by increasing the livers ability to metabolize LDL(oxidized cholesterol). Guggul also inhibits platelet aggregation thereby reducing the chance of stroke or embolism.* |

Policosanol: Policosanol is a blend of compounds isolated from natural plant waxes. In studies these waxes help to keep the blood platelets from sticking together * |
Red Yeast Rice: Red yeast rice inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol made by the liver similar to prescription cholesterol lowering drugs. I feel this product should beused with caution. All the material that I have read on this product brings me to the conclusion that I personally would not want to take this product. This is America however and we have the right (at least for now) to chose what we want to do for our health. If this product suites your needs then you have the right to buy it. * |

Kelation Plus Packets: Chelation Therapy is a liquid solution of a synthetic amino acid called EDTA that is administered intravenously for the purpose of removing lead from lead poisoning victims. They found however that is also dissolves the calcium that causes the plaque to stick on the artery walls and reduces heavy metal toxicity. Many people are finding relief from arteriosclerosis by using Chelation therapy. You can usually find a Doctor in your area that gives the intravenous form of Chelation therapy. For those people that are not in desperate need of the intravenous form of chelation or just want to keep arterial plaque down they can use the oral form that is an easy one per day packet. Manufactures instructions recommend that you use this product for at least 3 months that is 6 boxes of Kelation Plus. Each box costs $ 29.99 and lasts 15 days. Six boxes cost approximately $ 180.00. One intravenous Chelation treatment costs around $ 100.00 and it is recommended that you take 20-30 treatments in the beginning, then 1-2 per month for maintenance. Each treatment lasts around 2-3 hours. The Kelation Plus packets is an ideal alternative for a low cost and minimal time program.* |
