Selecting
A Justice of the Peace
Your wedding
day is the most important day of your life and I will help you plan the
ceremony and any special options you desire so that your special day
will be one that you will never forget.I will provide referrals to bands/DJ's, caterers, reception halls, locations for the ceremony, invitations florists, makeup consultants, etc. I am reasonably flexible and will travel to the location of your choice in the Berkshire/Hampshire County area for your ceremony or, you may have your ceremony in my home in a beautiful country setting. Travel, depending on how far I have to go, will be a small extra charge. The ceremony can last from 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the type of ceremony you would like and if you will be having readings, music, etc. A rehearsal is not required, but is a good idea to make sure things go smoothly. How and Where to Obtain a Marriage License You no longer need a blood test (medical certificate). You only need a marriage license. To obtain a marriage license, you both must apply together and in person to file your intention for a marriage license at any Massachusetts City or Town Clerk's Office. The fee for a marriage license is approximately $25.00, but can vary from town to town, so it is a good idea to call ahead and inquire as to the cost. You do not need to obtain your license in the town where you are planning to be married, as long as it is a Massachusetts license. If this is a second marriage for either of you. you may be required to show your divorce documentation, so bring it with you when you go to apply for your license. For same sex marriage couples, you will be required to provide proof of residency in Massachusetts. Once you have filed your intentions, you can pick up your marriage license 3 days after you apply. The 3-day waiting period begins to run the day after you apply for the license. Once you have obtained the marriage license, it must be used within 60 days. After your wedding, I will file your marriage license with the City or Town Clerk where you obtained it and you can usually pick it up by the middle of the week following your wedding (for example if you are married on a Saturday, the final marriage certificate can be obtained on Wednesday). It is always a good idea to call ahead and let them know you are coming to pick it up so they will be sure to have it ready for you. The cost is $5.00 to pick up the final certificate for short form and $10.00 for certified long form certificates. For further information, please click here |
